The medical team of 7 physicians specialized in histocytopathology develops new methods around four specialties, namely :
- Cytology
- Histology
- Fetopathology
- Immuno-histology
Their acknowledged special skills in gynecology and particularly in cervical cytology are taught through the school they have created:
The Brux Institute created: The Brux Institute.
This education is a specialization curriculum for technicians already holding a degree.
The department of histocytopathology was a pioneer in Europe for the evaluation of cytology techniques in monolayer.
Today, these techniques are routinely used in the laboratory. In strong collaboration with the molecular genetics department, our pathologists perform among the newer predictive tests of therapeutic response in oncology.
This illustrates the synergy between multidisciplinary teams at Laboratoire Cerba.
THE INSTITUT DE BRUX
Pathologists of the pathology department founded a training center called the Institut de Brux, for technicians in clinical pathology, biochemistry, biotechnology or equivalent skills. This school is hosted by the Laboratoire Cerba. It provides a one-year training (full time) for students to get qualified in cytology. After completion of this curriculum, they become able to read slides from cervix samples and then act as cytotechnicians participating to the screening and prevention of cervix cancer.
The Institut de Brux is open to students of any origin, including developing countries where a lack of skilled cytotechnicians is often noticed. Therefore, the Laboratoire Cerba acts as a citizen company participating to the development of cervix cancer screening in countries where this disease is often the first women killer.
