In a case of male infertility, sperm biochemistry tests are an extremely useful complement to semen analysis.
| |
Human sperm consists of spermatozoa in seminal fluid. The seminal fluid is made up of :
| - |
seminal secretions (which are rich in fructose) :65 % |
| - |
prostatic secretions (consisting of citrate, acid phosphatases and zinc) : 30 %
| - |
epididymal secretions (consisting of carnitine and alpha 1-4 glucosidase) : 5 %
Unless specified explicitly on your Test Order Form, Pasteur Cerba will assay fructose, citrate, zinc and carnitine. This choice of tests is related to stability considerations.
| |
The plasma sample you send should be prepared by centrifugation of the ejaculate. The seminal fluid should have been frozen as soon as possible. To help with interpretation of the results, please specify the total volume ejaculated.
These tests are carried out once a week and take two days.
