Comments

CEA concentration in various puncture liquids, CSF or cysts, have not been documented.

Testing this Biomarker in a puncture liquid can help diagnose the origin of an effusion (benign or malignant), especially when very high, or help evaluate metastatic invasion of a liquid. However, CEA is not sensitive or specific enough to make a diagnosis : the result is to be compared and held with clinical examination, pathology/cytology and medical imaging. Results are to be read with caution in case of contamination of the sample with blood.
