The free insulin assay cannot be interpreted in isolation and needs to be related to the total insulin assay.
If the medical prescription mentions free insulin, it is advisable to request both insulin doses: insulin and free insulin.
If total insulin has already been performed, please include the result with the request for free insulin.
Samples should be centrifuged and frozen within 12 hours.
