In almost 70 years, chromosome analysis techniques have undergone several revolutions, improving the precision of analysis and enabling the use of new biological materials. However, improvements in these analysis techniques have not meant the disappearance of older techniques, which are still used today for a large number of indications.
The aim of this presentation is therefore to outline the development of cytogenetic techniques, their possibilities and limitations, and to relate each of them to the indications that lead a doctor to prescribe a chromosome analysis for a patient.
